Salt hill Pub is a neighborhood eatery and gathering place for friends and family, proudly owned and operated by brothers Joe and Josh Tuohy. We have been offering our inspired blend of Honest Food, Perfect Pints and Living Music since June 2003. The pubs are named after a neighborhood in Galway, Ireland, home of our grandparents. Today, much of what we know about good food and good people comes from “Ma Tuohy.” Stop by the pubs anytime for great food and lively conversation and you’ll know what we mean when we say “Welcome to Salt hill.”
Salt hill Pub opened in 2003, in the historic 1882 Whipple Building on the Mall in Lebanon, on what was supposedly a “cursed” street corner. We started small, but from the beginning, set out to offer Honest Food, Perfect Pints, and Living Music. While we have grown over the years, we have never lost sight of this goal.
In June 2003, on a shoe string budget, we prepared fresh salads, soups and signatures sandwiches on a 10”x14” Panini grill, with just four draft beer offerings. We designed our menu on a picnic table in Colburn Park, and hired a few kids fresh out of high school (we miss you Anna). We worked every day, all day. We even stored some of our food in a coke machine!
Within a year, we needed more space. We tore down a few walls, built a kitchen, and created the comfortable and casual Galway Room for extra seating and private events. Before long, we began to seek other locations from which to offer Honest Food, Perfect Pints, and Living Music. We opened Salt hill Pub in Newport, NH in February 2007, and Salt hill Pub in Hanover in early 2010. In December 2015 we re-opened The Shanty, our newest pub in Newbury, NH.
Today, our pubs all offer fantastic, inventive pub fare, at affordable prices. We emphasize stick-to-your-ribs value, and source our ingredients locally when possible. Our aim is for your entire family to have a great time at our restaurants. We work hard to offer authentic Irish pub hospitality, and a truly great dining experience for each and every one of our valued guests.
In addition to pouring a certified perfect pint of Guinness Stout, we now feature 15 draft offerings at each location, and full cocktail bars. We are proud to offer outstanding brews crafted in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and beyond – including the limited edition Salt hill Pale Ale. At our pubs, you get a real pint, at a good price.
Since our first performer (fun fact: it was the inimitable Jim Hollis), we have presented over 5,000 live musical performances, from local legends Dr. Burma, Wherehouse, Brooks Hubbard and Baldilocks, to critically acclaimed national touring acts such as blues great Eddie Kirkland, ALO, Ten Mile Tide, Cormac McCarthy, and countless others.
